During the assessment visit, and if you return to the Freeman Hospital for a transplant operation, your carer cannot stay in the hospital with you. They can stay in our on-site carer flats if available, or in a nearby hotel or B&B.
A list of local hotels and B&Bs can be sent out to you if requested.
Carer flats

Our carer flats are located within the hospital grounds. Your carer can stay here free of charge. A member of staff will contact hotel services to check availability and then you will be asked to collect the key from the hotel services office located on level 1 near the restaurant.
Each carer flat has 3 bedrooms. Each bedroom contains two single beds, you will not be asked to share a bedroom with another carer. Each flat has a shared bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen has a microwave, kettle and fridge. Please remember to label and date food and drink items. There is extra bedding and towels in the storage cupboard. Please leave the flats in clean and tidy condition as the domestic help is for providing clean linen only.

We can only accommodate one carer per patient during the assessment visit.
You can show your key in the restaurant to get food at a discounted rate. Please remember not to take the key home with you when you leave as flats are in high demand.
Directions
The flats are in a 3 storey building called Beechwood, situated at the rear of the hospital next to the car park. To get there, you’ll need to walk through the main podium building towards the Northern Cancer Centre and Renal building, past WHSmiths. You’ll then go through a revolving door and the accommodation is straight over the zebra crossing.
